TFA: the forever chemical you haven't heard of.

Trifluoroacetic acid is an ultra-short-chain PFAS that forms as a breakdown product of synthetic refrigerants and accumulates in rainwater. Natural refrigerants don't break down into TFA.

Synthetic refrigerants escape over the lifetime of every system: installation, service, end-of-life. The leaks are small, but they add up across millions of installations worldwide.

The technology has proven to be very reliable so far and has performed well during ongoing operation. Technical challenges were resolved smoothly and very quickly. The personnel involved appeared highly competent and qualified. Since the completion of the testing phase, no system failures have occurred. The quality of the documentation and the operating manual is generally solid, but still offers potential for further improvement to complete the overall very positive impression of the system.

Fenagy is a leading manufacturer of industrial heat pumps and refrigeration systems, and their vision is to help the transformation of the energy system into a greener and more sustainable one. The company has two focus areas: the district heating sector, where its electrical heat pumps prevent the burning of fossil fuels, and the industry, where its combined heating and cooling systems can reuse all waste energy.
