ATMO Approved is the world’s leading industry label measuring and recognizing impact with natural refrigerants that power millions of refrigeration, chiller and heatpump systems worldwide. Each year ‘Best in Class’ manufacturers and contractors must meet strict criteria and demonstrate impact in order to ‘become’ ATMO Approved. Since 2022 over 100 companies have applied. To date only 20 have been (Re)Approved.
As the world’s leading independent authority on natural refrigerant based cooling and heating technologies, publishing numerous reports and case studies, thousands of articles as well as hosting 80+ international conferences since 2006, ATMOsphere’s team of engineers and analysts has developed a unique model to calculate both avoided CO2eq emissions and TFA emissions by placing natural refrigerant based equipment into the market.
- * The label is exclusively for use on natural refrigerant products and any misuse must be reported.
- * Pricing will be made available during the pre-qualification stage and will be based on the company’s annual turnover.
- * Timeline: The process is expected to take 4-6 weeks from registration of interest to final approval, contingent on the applicant’s responsiveness in providing the necessary data.

How will it work?
1. Fill in application form
To apply, simply complete a brief questionnaire providing your contact details and outlining your motivation for wanting to join the label.

Eligible companies will be contacted to arrange a call with the ATMOsphere CEO to further discuss the process. (Senior Management participation is required.)
3. Receive the information pack around the required documentation
After a successful pre-qualification discussion, the company representative will receive a detailed information pack outlining the application process, along with the necessary information and documents required for submission.
4. Apply (send back the required information)
Qualifying is determined by four key factors and supporting information is required in each category:
Vision/leadership: Proof that the company has publicly committed to net-zero goals or specific natural refrigerant/clean cooling goals. (Companies will be disqualified for sharing any misinformation about refrigerants.)
Customer satisfaction: Support from at least three customers (end users or contractors) endorsing your service and products. These customers will rate your company based on five standard questions. ATMOsphere will contact these customers directly, but the company applying for the label must obtain their consent and provide contact details.
Impact: Provide basic information about the equipment you manufacture, along with associated efficiency data, to support our custom methodology for calculating CO₂eq and TFA emissions avoided over the equipment's lifetime.
Training: Invest in vocational classes or provide up-to-date training for employees, as well as for customers, suppliers, and/or potential partners.
5. Receive results and branding (if successful)
If successful, you will receive a label communications pack that will assist you in sharing this achievement globally. The label is valid until the end of the current year. Payments will be prorated (minimum six months), based on the month of application.
6. Reapply the next year
The methodology for the label will be improved year after year, making the criteria for success, more stringent to ensure best in class.
7. Platinum label after five years
If a company achieves the label for five years in a row, it will receive the special ATMOsphere Platinum label to prove its commitment to natural refrigerants.
